Numerex Corp is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Our story is one of dynamic evolution in the machine-to-machine (M2M) business-to-business market, from a product to service-centric approach over the nearly two decades we have been dedicated to the development and deployment of M2M solutions. Through organic growth that fueled our expansion and acquisition that added strength and core competencies, we have assembled the parts of our Numerex DNA® (Device, Network and Application), the critical links in the M2M value chain.
Numerex was founded in 1992 and first traded publicly in March 1994 (NASDAQ: NMRX). At the time, the company was focused on “derived channel,” a wireline-based telemetry data communications offering (telemetry is subsumed into M2M communications), and served select vertical markets including alarm security and line monitoring. In November 1999, we sold our wireline business to British Telecommunications PLC (“BT”) in order to focus on our nascent wireless data communications business.
In May 1998, Numerex Corp., BellSouth Corporation and BellSouth Wireless (which became Cingular in 2001 and AT&T Mobility in early 2007) completed a transaction resulting in the formation of Cellemetry LLC, a joint venture between Numerex and Cingular. Cellemetry LLC provided a cost-effective, two-way wireless data communications network throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay, the Dutch Antilles and Puerto Rico. On March 28, 2003, Numerex acquired Cingular’s interest in Cellemetry LLC.
During this period, we developed a Short Message Service Center (SMSC) service bureau, Data1Source, which provided SMS-related services to Tier 2 and 3 carriers throughout the United States. While Data1Source subsequently was sold, it served to advance our technical expertise in the digital GSM and CDMA realms, and provided a solid bedrock on which to build our current network. At the same time, we expanded our technical platform to serve the mobile tracking and alarm monitoring markets.
At the beginning of 2006, we further enhanced our portfolio of wireless products and services through the acquisition and integration of the assets of Airdesk, Inc.
In 2007, Numerex acquired the assets of Orbit One Communications, Inc., which provides satellite data products and services to government agencies and the emergency response market.
In January 2008, Numerex was awarded the international ISO/IEC 27001:2005 certification (ISO 27001) by BSI Management Systems. ISO 27001 is ISO’s highest certification for information security that ensures data confidentiality, integrity and availability.
In October 2008, Numerex acquired Ublip, a privately-held M2M software and services company headquartered in Dallas, Texas. The acquisition brought us additional expertise and technology, including middleware designed to simplify and jump-start application development and deployment.
To serve our customers best, we have structured our organization along the lines of our DNA segments. With a vast array of technologies, we deliver comprehensive offerings through a single point of contact. Simplification is the keynote.
